The Pierluigi Malinverni Fossil Museum |
It was founded in 1852 by Count Andrea Piovene and it displays the fossils which were discovered in the Chiavon stream (near Breganze) that same year by the geologist Achille de Zigno. The last restoration of the museum dates back to 2006 and was done by the Association ProLugo and three young volunteers, directed by a professor from the University of Padua.
"Man, you are wandering among these walls that enclose three thousand millenniums of History of the World. Think that the whole history of mankind, from the beginning until today, is just the history of one day and your own life is just a moment, an instant of the never ending."
Remo Malinverni
Flora: Over 352 species can be found in the museum, 215 from Chiavon, 69 from Salcedo and 68 from both these places. The above mentioned flora is similar to current species typical of the Continents of North and South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Mediterranean area. The species collected in Bolca are more similar to the flora of eastern India and Australia. The palms in the collection are very famous. The height of one of these is 9 meters, it was discovered in 1863 with its roots still intact. It took 4 years to extract.
Fauna: in the museum there are foraminifera, corals, brachiopoda, lamellibranchia, shellfish, gastropoda, shells, echinodermata and fish. |
